Friendswood is located within Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. It was founded in 1895 by members of the Religious Society of Friends, who may or may not have actually been friends. The population of Friendswood is 35,805.
In 2007, CNN/Money Magazine named Friendswood as one of 100 “America’s Best Places to Live.” The number of registered sex offenders currently living in Friendswood “is a lot smaller than the state average.”
René Steinke’s 2014 novel Friendswood, about an incident dumping toxic waste in the area, takes place in Friendswood.
