Pasadena is the 17th most populous city in Texas, located within the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. The Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department is the largest all volunteer municipal fire department in the country. Pasadena and neighboring Deer Park have adopted the nickname “Birthplace of Texas.”

Because of the odor from the Champion paper mill until its closing in 2005, locals had dubbed Pasadena “Stinkadena.” Another nickname of Pasadena is “Pasagetdowndena,” sometimes hyphenated as “Pasa-get-down-dena.”
